What to know about Disney+ Platform

Disney +, the SVOD service of the Disney group, launched on April 7, 2020. Launched on November 12, 2019 in the United States, Canada and the Netherlands, the subscription video platform finally arrives in France on April 7 2020. Disney + brings together thousands of episodes and films classified by genre. The platform highlights the strong brands of the group – Disney, Marvel, Pixar and National Geographic – whose affiliate content is accessible in one click. One of the most popular series is inspired by the Star Wars universe and called The Mandalorian. While Netflix has made binge watching its trademark, showing each new season of a series in its entirety, from the start, Disney wants to create dates for it. New features will be integrated into the platform once a week, on Friday. With already 95 million subscribers claimed worldwide at the beginning of February 2021, the SVOD platform has established itself in an ultra competitive market.

Disney + has a great card to play. “If there are about fifty services in France, there is for the moment Netflix and the others, observes Gilles Pezet, analysis at NPA Conseil. Disney + has, by the strength of its brand and its catalog , the means to transform the premium SVOD market from a monopoly to a duopoly. ” The Disney + project, the fruit of several years of preparation, is extremely strategic. “This is a reorientation at the scale of the Disney group, to become a major player in streaming and direct-to-consumer, not a simple test,” recalls Gilles Pezet.

Rising prices for Disney +, the entertainment giant’s SVOD service. The subscription price will drop from 6.99 to 8.99 euros from February 23, 2021, when the platform will host the entire Star brand’s catalog. “The pricing policy of Disney + is, in view of the proposed catalog, delusional. A series like The Mandalorian is of a completely different ilk from the Apple Morning Show.”, Gilles Pezet analyzes. The platform has in fact opted for a very aggressive price of 6.99 euros per month or 69.99 euros per year, with a free trial period of 7 days, at launch. At this price, the subscriber can view the contents in 4K, download them at will and consult them on four screens simultaneously. Proof of the platform’s family positioning, a single subscription can create up to 7 profiles (compared to 4 at Netflix).
